Mr. Hatfield enjoys a diverse litigation practice with an emphasis on the defense of health care providers. Since 1996, Mr. Hatfield has represented clients from the early stages of discovery through trial and appeal. Mr. Hatfield works with clients and witnesses to develop a litigation strategy. In particular, Mr. Hatfield works closely with expert witnesses to develop defenses and to combat opposing expert testimony. Mr. Hatfield has successfully implemented these strategies to argue and win motions, including motions related to significant evidentiary issues and dispositive motions. Mr. Hatfield is an effective advocate with extensive experience in jury trials and arbitrations, including first-chairing numerous actions resulting in defense verdicts. Mr. Hatfield has also served as a Special Justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court and has been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America in medical malpractice defense and personal injury litigation since 2012.

Representative Experience

Obtained defense verdict in ‘bet the company’ nursing home negligence case in Pulaski County, Arkansas.

Obtained defense verdict nursing home negligence case in Garland County, Arkansas where Plaintiff sought multi-million dollar judgment.

Successful appeals to Arkansas Supreme Court and Court of Appeals in Bedell v. Williams and Scott v. CANC, establishing limits on Plaintiff’s ability to seek damages against owners of long-term care facilities.

Obtained defense verdict in breach of contract action related to termination of banking employee.

Serves as statewide counsel for several long-term care providers.
